War and Peace 1945

The Gallery of Fame – an exhibition from the series of historical and contemporary photographs

The exhibition showcases 100 photographs capturing memorable moments from the Spanish Civil War up to the 1945 peace treaty. The main attraction includes signed photographs by three surviving veterans: Don Graves, Dorothy Trate, and Jake Larson, all World War II heroes and symbols of America.

Exhibition Details:

1. Photographs by Robert Capa and Gerda Taro: The exhibition begins with photos by world-famous Hungarian photographer Robert Capa and his love, Gerda Taro. Their images capture memorable moments from the Spanish Civil War (where Gerda was tragically killed by a tank) to the Normandy landings. The opening image, The Falling Soldier, is one of the most famous World War II photographs.           
2. Photographs by Don Graves: The centerpiece of the exhibition features signed photographs by Don Graves, depicting the largest and bloodiest battle in the Pacific (Iwo Jima). Don Graves, who will turn 100 in May 2025, hand-signed 80 photographs exclusively for this exhibition. The iconic image of American soldiers raising the flag on Iwo Jima, signed by Graves for this exhibit, is one of the most iconic photographs in world history.
3. Photographs by Papa Jake: The third section showcases photos by Papa Jake (born Jake Larson). At 102 years old, he has become a TikTok star and is one of the last survivors of the Normandy landings. He once said, "I'm not a hero. The heroes died on D-Day. I'm a survivor who has the chance to tell the stories of the heroes who didn't come home." 
4. Photographs by Dorothy Trate: This section features signed photos by Dorothy Trate, one of the last surviving "Rosie the Riveters," who worked in war industry factories during the war. Dorothy, who will turn 103 in the summer of 2025, is already part of American educational material. Fun fact: she threw the first pitch for the Reading Fightin Phils baseball team on her 100th birthday. 
5. Special Signed Photographs:

• Hugo Broch, 102 years old, the last living German fighter ace from World War II.
• Josip Manolić, the longest-serving head of state in history, who passed away in March 2024, just before his 104th birthday. He fought as a partisan alongside Tito during the war.
• Tsar Simeon II of Bulgaria, the last living tsar, a relative of Queen Elizabeth II, crowned as a child during World War II.

     6. The horror of Hiroshima and the joy of peace: The final section of the exhibition features photographs of Hiroshima and the joy following the end of the war.

A Hírnév Galériája – történelmi és kortárs fotográfiák sorozat kiállítása

A kiállítás 100 fotográfián keresztül mutatja be a spanyol polgárháborútól az 1945-ös békekötésig a második világháború emlékezetes pillanatait. A fő attrakciót három túlélő veterán, Don Graves, Dorothy Trate és Jake Larson aláírt fényképei jelentik, akik mindannyian második világháborús hősök és Amerika jelképei.

Kiállítás részletei:

1. Robert Capa és Gerda Taro képei: Robert Capa, a világhírű magyar fotós és szerelme, Gerda Taro képei a spanyol polgárháborútól (ahol Gerda egy tank áldozata lett) a normandiai partraszállásig mutatják be az emlékezetes pillanatokat. A kiállítás nyitóképét, A Milicista halála című fotót, a világ egyik leghíresebb második világháborús fényképeként tartják számon.
2. Don Graves képei: A kiállítás központi részét Don Graves által aláírt, a Csendes-óceáni térség legnagyobb és legvéresebb csatáját (Iwo Jima) bemutató képek alkotják. Don Graves 2025 májusában lesz 100 éves, és a kiállítás számára külön dedikált 80 fényképet. Az ikonikus fotón az amerikai katonák Iwo Jimán kitűzik a nemzeti lobogót, a világtörténelem egyik legikonikusabb pillanata.
3. Papa Jake képei: A harmadik részben Papa Jake (született Jake Larson) képei láthatóak. Jake 102 éves, TikTok-sztár, a normandiai partraszállás utolsó túlélőinek egyike. Egyszer így nyilatkozott: "Nem vagyok hős. A hősök meghaltak a partraszálláskor. Én túlélő vagyok, aki mesélhet a hősökről."
4. Dorothy Trate képei: Dorothy Trate aláírt fotói a "Szegecselő Rózsák" egyik utolsó túlélőjeként láthatók, akik a hadiipari gyárakban dolgoztak a háború alatt. Dorothy 2025 nyarán lesz 103 éves. Dorothy már tananyag Amerikában, és érdekességként ő végezhette el a philadelphiai Reading Fightin Phils baseballcsapatának kezdődobását 100. születésnapján.
5. Különleges, aláírt fényképek:
• Hugo Broch, 102 éves, az utolsó élő német vadászpilóta ász a második világháborúból.
• Josip Manolić, a történelem leghosszabb ideig hivatalban lévő államelnöke, aki 2024-ben, nem sokkal 104. születésnapja előtt hunyt el. Partizánként harcolt Tito oldalán.
• II. Simeon bolgár cár, az utolsó élő cár, II. Erzsébet királynő rokona, gyermekként koronázták cárrá a háború alatt.
6. Hirosima borzalma és a béke öröme: A kiállítás utolsó része a háború záró akkordját, Hirosimát, valamint a békét követő örömöt ábrázoló fényképeket mutat be.
